When you go to a spa, you’re often presented with a menu that offers different rates depending on the kind of massage they do. Typically, they charge more for deep tissue, and they have all kinds of little optional add-ons such as fragrant oils that bring up the price. I don’t like to work like that, so I charge only according to the length of time I spend massaging. That way I’m free to employ whatever modality is best for the client. It’s much simpler and more honest this way. I also don’t charge for late cancellations. I’m just interested in getting you back on my table.
I charge $30 plus a dollar a minute. This rate is way more reasonable than your average spa. I don’t really do massages for less than 30 minutes. Even if you come to me with just one specific issue, such as pain in just one shoulder, I need to work on the surrounding muscles as well which normally includes the entire back. Beyond that, I will work for any amount of time, up to 120 minutes. I have done massages for over two hours before, but I quit doing that. Over two hours is excessive in my opinion. I suspect it appeals more to people who are looking for an escape from life through massage. If you want a massage to last over 2 hours, maybe I’ll do it. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
